Launch System Preferences either by clicking on its icon in the Dock or by choosing it from the Apple menu. How to set up a password to lock the screen In the Resources folder that you are brought to, find the ScreenSaverEngine file and drag it to your Dock. In the box, enter: /System/Library/Frameworks/amework/Versions/A/Resources/ and click Go. This works in a similar way to the previous one, but rather than just lock your Mac it powers down the hard drive, puts the CPU into low power mode and stops background tasks in order to save energy. You can also use a keyboard shortcut to put your Mac to sleep. I've googled a bit but all I see is people locking their Mac instantly whenever their screen turns off (and then using the shortcut). Is there a way to lock my Mac instantly while leaving my normal delay intact? I know about Alt + Cmd + PowerOff but this shortcut just uses the delay.
